Inspiration - Thelwell

Looking through my bookshelves at the weekend I suddenly realised how important illustration is to me. As you may remember, I collect different editions of The Wind in the Willows, mainly because the illustrations add so much to the story.

Sharing my love of illustration with my visitor (a graphic designer currently working for a publisher) I introduced him to the work of Norman Thelwell (yes he's a lot younger than me!!) Thelwell is most well known for his beautifully detailed and observed humorous drawings of little girls and fat ponies.

This 'cartoon' is from a book called The Effluent Society, Thelwell's take on "progress" in the 1980s. Thought this one was a good link to the birding too!!
