Kathakali

Today, we at Gairloch were lucky enough to welcome dancers from India.

It was, in fact, the oddest couple - a lass from Lancashire who travelled to India over 30 years ago, and didn't come back, and her husband, who is a traditional dancer who dances KATHAKALI which is the classical dance drama of Kerala, South West India.

Their workshop with the children in the morning was amazing; even the little brats among them were captivated, as Vijay & Barbara explained the sign language, the emotional facial expressions, and the physical movements to tell a traditional story.

It was then followed by a performance in the afternoon. This shot does not show Vijay in all his glorious makeup and costume, but I liked the effect of the lights.
