Pompon tree flower ball
One of South Africa's best known and well loved indigenous trees.
The (Dais cotinifolia) natural home is the eastern parts of SA where it grows on the margins of forests, wooded hill slopes and in stony kloofs.
When in flower the whole tree looks like a giant candy floss, as the tree transforms into a cloud of soft pink balls.
This fast growing and fairly drought resistant tree has become very popular in South African gardens.
