An 'ACE' Day!
They say 'Never work with children and animals'......Well I don't!
I 'Volunteer' at the ACE 'Animal Care in Egypt' hospital in Luxor, 2 days a week.
I had known about the work that Kim Taylor did upon my arrival in Luxor, but for some reason, fate decided that after 5 years in Luxor, I would be 'Ready' to actually help at the centre as a volunteer.
Spending time here has impacted upon my life in so many ways. The people I have met, the knowledge and understanding that I have gained, from the veterinary experts, the 'ACE' staff and the local people, that have so much trust and admiration for the team that dedicate their lives to helping the animals in Luxor, makes me feel very privileged to be a part of the 'ACE' team.
Everyday at the hospital is so different, you literally never know what is going to happen!
Today, we had a class of 15 school children from the 'Rawaj Primary School' in Al Bayadiah, arrive quite unexpectedly! We of course welcomed them.
We took them to our Education Centre and Zakia explained to them what we did at ACE. The children are our future. We must teach and share our knowledge with them, as ignorance, regarding animals and the treatment of, is our biggest enemy here in Luxor.
When the children were asked if they loved animals, they all cheered and screamed 'Yes'...When they were asked 'How they show that love to animals?'....Silence.
After a busy morning with the children and treating inpatients, we had another unexpected visitor! Mai, the daughter of Dr. Ezzat El Sayed, the Governor of Luxor...As with all of our visitors, we made Mai very welcome.
