Siesta Beach, FL #1 in the USA
I traveled almost an hour to take Nia on the beach again - Siesta Beach this time. It is ranked the #1 beach in the USA by Dr. Stephen Leatherman, director of the Laboratory for Coastal Research at Florida International University. Every year Dr. Leatherman ranks beaches on 50 criteria, including water quality, weather, facilities and crowds. A top score is 250. Read more about this and the top 10 beaches in the country in this article in the Herald Tribune. It is interesting!
I can see why Siesta beach is ranked #1 even though it is not my favorite kind of beach. I prefer more sand dunes and imperfections. The sand here is powdering soft and the space it covers is so flat and absolutely enormous! Good for the many hordes of people that come to exercise: walking, jogging or strolling along the shore. As we do our Nia meditation in motion, we get many looks, smiles and nods of approval from the passers-by. It is very interesting and quite the sensory experience reaching up to the clouds and dancing in the sand. This Tuesday there were 7 or 8 of us and when class was over, 3 of us braved the chilly water (68?) and took a swim!
I am grateful and thankful I can experience this on a weekly basis.
larger more spacious view here if you like - enjoy!
happy day.
