Sauvie Island Birdwatching
We set out this afternoon on a drive to our nieces home to drop off some remote controlled helicopters for their boys, then decided to drive out to Sauvie Island, just north of Portland. It is an amazing spot with lots of wonderful farms and lots of water and waterfowl. It is a well-known birding spot, and I was hoping to see something new. This capture is taken at a viewing spot and you can see the multitude of Canada Geese.
Later as we were leaving we saw lots of Sandhills Cranes which are 3 feet tall and have a wing span of 6 feet. Unfortunately they really blend into the dirt fields and they were a long way away, so the photos were mediocre at best! Maybe next time they will be closer;))
