Not so level crossing

My husband has been a little unfortunate today - he's been caught by this manned level crossing four times today and one near miss - I only managed once and a near miss.

As a manned crossing it does take a hell of a lot longer than the auto one we have on another route out of the village. Plus its generally a one coach train which always seems a little pitiful when there are more folks waiting in their cars for it to pass than could possibly be on the train itself.

Can trains not read?

It clearly states 'KEEP CLEAR'!
