From one place to the next
I often ride past this monument, finally I stopped today to find out what and who it is.
This is a Ernst Thälmann (16 April 1886 - 18 August 1944) he was the leader of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) during much of the Weimar Republic (from 1925). He spent the last 11 years of his life in solitary confinement and was shot in 1944 at Buchenwald concentration camp on Hitler's orders.
After 1945, Ernst Thälmann, and other leading communists who were murdered, such as Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht, were widely honoured in East Germany
