Youth with split apple
This bronze statue of a reclining youth, with a split apple in his hand, was put in place at Aberdeen University in 2005, to celebrate 500 years of teaching and learning at King's College. Don't waste your time looking for the apple, you can't see it from this angle!
The statue is the work of Kenny Hunter who studied sculpture at the Glasgow School of Art. Earlier that same year he had been the recipient of the James McBey Fellowship, and had spent three months in residency in New York. James McBey was born and brought up in the village where I live, Newburgh on Ythan, and went on to be a major international painter and producer of etchings. Quite by chance, I see that I blipped a McBey etching of a camel patrol exactly 12 months ago.
