Sentinel Pines
I took a short run up to Hangingstone Quarry this morning. I rather fancied taking a picture from behind the line of pines that you could see silhouetted in yesterday's Aerograffiti. It is actually possible, by looking at the outline of the trees here, to pinpoint exactly where this shot was taken.
I've always loved running along this ridge, a glorious bit of single-track, undulating between the trees with the old quarry on one side and a drop off down to the town below on the other. I've always thought of these trees as sentinels, watching over the town, never missing a beat. It's a special place.
Referring back once more to Sunday's Parallel Convergence, I've added a postscript and a link to a satellite image so it's possible to view those wonderful walls from above, and see the precise angles at which they are set. It's quite fascinating.
Off home shortly so as to get dinner cooked in plenty of time to watch Frozen Planet. This documentary series has been absolutely amazing and the photography quite, quite sublime. It's even had my sons putting away their laptops so as to watch with their full attention! Are we all in awe?
