Sheltering from the bitter wind

We had a lovely walk along the Nairn foreshore with Mum this morning. Despite the sunshine it was bitterly cold and there was snow on the hills to the north.

This large flock of small birds (?ringed plovers??) were in two groups - one in the sheltered water and the other at the base of a 2 foot sand cliff - and they looked as if they were trying to keep out of the cold wind. On our way back they provided a wonderful spectacle as they flew around, just above the sea, making light and dark patterns as they changed directions. Quite magical!
