A Ministerial Visit

Vince Cable, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, visited the University College where I work today.

I was the person walking ahead of the entourage, making sure that all was in order in each studio area. I was also the official door wedge. This shot was taken before being the door wedge allowing ease of access from the weaving studio to the digital print studio. VC is talking to a student and the guy on the left is my line manager, still sporting his spectacular Movember tash.

When I was door wedge into our pottery throwing studio VC shook my hand: nice to know that door wedges aren't beneath him.

We hope that this visit will help to emphasise the importance of art and design subjects in higher education and their contribution to employment within the creative industries and the UK economy.

We'd also like to think that the coalition will one day (very soon) reverse its decision to cut teaching grants for all arts-based, humanities and social science subjects in HE.
