Bobcat Kitten
Yesterday I mentioned a family of bobcats (mother and 4 kittens) at Green Cay Wetlands in the Palm Beach area on Florida's East coast.
This morning we returned, and after a considerable wait various members of the little family showed themselves. They advanced out of the cluster of trees and bushes which was their hideout (perhaps 15-20 yards/meters from the boardwalk), to five-ten yards or less away. There were at least 20-25 birders and photographers waiting for them on the boardwalk, and even as they came into open territory there were all sorts of branches, etc. in between. This is essentially the best capture I managed, of one of the kittens.
Bobcats (Lynx rufus) are the commonest wild cat in North America, averaging 34 inches (85 cm). My guess is that this kitten was about 18-20 inches (up from 10 inches at bird; we had no information about their age).
