During the original Baku oil boom this area was the most important in all Azerbaijan. According to Von Thielmann in 1875 here 'oil springs' were like 'geysers in Iceland'. Due to very small storage capacity valuable oil could run to waste for weeks in those days. The history is clearly visible and oil is still flowing strong today.
