The Wren

snowed under

The forecasters were right today - I woke to a white blanket outside.

The snow had frozen onto the windscreen as the temperature obviously fell after the flurry of snow and while I was defrosting the car I took a quick blip of the heather in my rockery. The sun had now come out and you can see a couple of drops forming on the flower.

After breakfast I set out, hopeful that the roads would not be too tricky as I knew the side roads would not have been gritted. I made my way up towards my usual car park but decided that it was sensible to leave the car a bit lower down as the road was becoming a bit treacherous and it was all uphill from here. The wood looked magical and as there had not been any wind since the snow fell everything was motionless and still covered with a frosting as if frozen in that moment. I took lots of photos and once home was spoilt for choice. I chose this one with the snow on the bracken as I liked the thin rays of sun highlighting some of the fronds. Bruce and Cara went almost hyper, they were so excited, and many times when I paused to take a specific shot they thundered down the slope, crashing into my chosen subject and suddenly the bracken or twigs were bereft of their snow! They do say never work with children or animals, don't they?

I'm not sure if I chose the right shot to blip. The other contestants are linked above so I hope you can see them as sometimes when I put a link up it doesn't work - still got my 'L' plates on!
