Celebrating Ashoora
In the Islamic calendar, 10th day of the month of Muharram is the day of 'Ashoora, a day of mourning for all feeling Muslims. The mourning is a way to remind oneself of Hussain's (grand son of prophet Muhammad (PBUH)) incomparable sacrifice, a way to thank him, a way to express love for him, and a way to broadcast to the world his message of true freedom.
I wanted to capture the essence of this mourning by photographing my local Shia Mosques where they hoist black & red flags during that time. I have been thinking about going out and doing it for last two years, but never had the courage to do so. So, this year I thought I just can't let the opportunity go! And here I am happy and excited both for my achievement.
