Stowe Gardens
From my vantage point, the skyline is made up of the trees in Stowe Gardens, the famous stately home of the Temple family.
From Sixteenth Century sheep farmers to Nineteenth Century dukes, the Temple family made their name by marrying heiresses and following their political ambitions. They were able to work their way up the title ladder and make their mark on north Buckinghamshire in an immense and long lasting way with the creation of Stowe. When he died, Lord Cobham was commemorated in a column to rival that of Lord Nelson in Trafalgar Square. I photographed it with my tiny camera from a great distance, because the afternoon winter sun was illuminating the very top of the column. I hope you can spot it...
