Queen Charlotte Track - Marlborough Sound
We woke up after a good sleep in our tent at another Doc campsite with all the latest longdrop facilities and water to boil but a fantastic view of the sea and waves rolling on the shore. We headed for a walk up Queen Charlotte Track to get a view from a ridge of the Sounds on both sides. The walk was hot and humid but the views were worth it.
On our way back to the tent we walked down to a peninsular with tiny beaches on both sides. We got our selves set up with our books to read and, fully conforming to the British stereotype, water to make a cup of tea boiling away on the stove!
Just when we thought we'd had enough excitement for the day as we washed up after tea there was an earthquake. Its rumbled around the hills and we froze instantly evaluating where we were in respect of landslides or trees falling. All was well but it lasted about a minute and we later heard measured 5.7 magnitude so was a fair shake!
