Some Days

Pastybird!

Big bird

I am having difficulty in finding time to take photos at work, these days.

Firstly, the work-load has increased recently, as we come to planting-up of the walled garden. Everything else has to be attended to; the leaves, which get everywhere, weeds in borders, some still growing strong (mostly groundsel, bittercress and, rather more unusual, wild turnip and spoonwort) etc etc etc!

Secondly, our day length seems to have shortened dramatically in the past week. This means that we have more to do and less time to do it.

It also means, though, that the golden hour extends to 11.30am, and starts again at 12.30!

So, I decided to set-up my tripod just inside the shed door, at break-time this morning. I tore-up my supermarket pasty (apologies to any Cornish people) and distributed it liberally in my line of sight, sitting with the door nine tenths closed with just the very front of the lens peeking through.

I sat there for half an hour! I could hear crows. If I poked my head out I could see crows! I got my camera off the tripod and took several unflattering pictures of crows behinds, but basically, nothing. So I picked up the larger bits of pasty and went back to work.

At lunchtime, I noticed that the crumbs and smaller pieces of pasty had been hoovered up. As I sat down to eat, an irate craaark came from outside. Craaark is crow for "Come on then, where's the rest of my pasty."

So I got my shot and still had most of the pasty in the shed.

I didn't fancy it by this time so had bought some chips.

And gave Old Joe Crow the remaining ersatz Cornish delicacy.

Not slow!
