A Rush of Love to the Head
Callum has grown to be the most wonderfully loving and caring brother to Reuben, empathetic, understanding, amused by Reuben's quirky antics. Moments before this, Callum had given Reuben the stick he's now holding. They have always found things to give each other, are always sharing treasures when they're not pulling treasures from each other's hands. I utterly adore him for the little man he is and for the truly beautiful little boy he has become. Putting them to bed tonight, I looked long at his lovely eyes as they fluttered in and out of sleep. I wanted to keep telling him how proud I am of him, how much I love him. Does he know it so it warms his heart each moment? Does his love shine through most at that moment, when he smiles back at me, the chaos of the day having passed him and his mind and heart being free to wonder and dream. I was beaming in those few precious trinkets of life.
I blame it on a rush of love to the head.
Today we met fellow photographer and blogger Jaana for the first time whom I booked to capture the boys and I, having hooked up online through our sons' special needs. A devilish journey to get to Griffith Park, arriving at dusk, miles too late on account of a tricky day and general faffing to get things done, but at least there was time for Jaana to capture the boys and I for some Christmas shots. I hastily got out my camera and grabbed just a couple including this, not having formatted my disk nor giving too much thought to the shot or the settings (scold me) so I'm happy at least this snapshot came of it.
We were backed by a gorgeous pine tree which had sadly been a victim of last week's great wind storm. I raided it for the bountiful feast of huge pinecones and the little dainty ones which would never grow to maturity, their lives cut short in one foul swoop of a winter gale.
Jaana posted a sneak peek for me and I love it! I'm looking forward to capturing her family in return before Christmas. It was a delight finally meeting her, having shared the medical ups and downs with her online.
Friday I'm doing a commercial shoot for the Los Angeles Motorcycle Show, all chrome and glamorous girls and on Sunday, a wedding. If anyone can share some tips on chrome and babes, they'll be much appreciated, thanks. Next year, I'll be doing considerably more commercial and less family photography, my in-hospital newborn photography work aside. It's a business decision based on many factors including the boys.
Til then, Callum and I have a date with the ice rink tomorrow and lessons ahead for him. He's a natural.
