Sgwarnog: In the Field

By sgwarnog

It was a wild and blustery day, with waves of rain squalls divided by patches of blue sky.

The view out of my office window went something like:

rain ~ in the peace garden ~ so much turbulence ~ nourishing ~ life

waves of rain ~ rippling ~ across a slate sky ~ a crashing surf ~ of wind

after the squall ~ contrails ~ drift peacefully ~ in a blue sky ~ subtle atmospheric havoc

A month ago I brought you this scene of Bradford's Tyrrell Street as night was falling. Some of you noticed at the time that the Christmas illuminations were strung, but not lit, so here it is again in festive mode.

This will have been taken at an almost identical time, which is further evidence of the nights drawing in. I'm also growing a bit more confident in hand-held night shots, following advice from @PeninsulaLight among others. I try to tuck myself in against a wall, or a lamp post, cradle the camera as best I can, and take four of five of the same scene. This one had enough light to need only 1/3s exposure, which has made for a tolerably sharp image, but still slow enough for a nice bit of ghosting.

As always, the lights work well against the gleaming paving slabs, which have themselves featured in many previous blips, like Rain.

city streets ~ slick ~ with freezing rain ~ knee deep ~ in winter lights
