Afternoon nap

I read about zone focusing yesterday. There is some debate about the aperture suggested but nevertheless I tried it today and found it to be a good tool.

I have a question though, if anyone has an answer --
I use a Nikon D3100, I set it to manual focus on my kit lens. Set 2 meters zone with f8/35mm. Now that the lens is set to focus anything in that distance, does it matter if I change the focusing point (tracking points) on the camera? Will it mess up the focus or still everything in that distance and frame will be in focus?

Would appreciate any help on this.
