Boxed In

Mummy and Daddy have set up house in my letterbox. I heard these chicks on the weekend but wasn't game to open the letterbox until today as I didn't want to upset the balance of nature (and letterboxes).

This afternoon as I pulled in my driveway Mum and Dad flew away so I took the opportunity to poke my camera under the flap. I didn't want to touch anything or take more than a moment so I pointed, clicked twice and closed the flap again. I've since seen Mum fly back in with a worm so all is well.

ADDENDUM: I didn't do too well with this write up did I?
I should have said that these are starlings. The parents have laid n my mailbox over the past 6 years (that I know of), and this is their second clutch for the season. She abandoned the first lot so I'm hoping she will raise these 3 okay.

I put a sign on my letterbox that says something like "No Mail! Birds nesting." Fortunately I live in a very small town and the postie knows about the birds so will deliver my mail to me at work or put it on my doorstep. The marvel of small towns.
