Sigiriya- 8th Wonder of World (UNESCO)

A World Heritage Site built ~480 AD.

"Lion's Rock" that has an ancient fortress and castle on the top. Remnant of an extinct volcano it is > 1,200 ft high, has an elliptical shape and has sheer drops around all sides.

The site has a palace on the flat top of the rock, a mid-level terrace that includes the Lion Gate and the mirror wall with its frescoes, the lower palace that clings to the slopes below the rock, and the moats, walls, and gardens that extend for some hundreds of metres out from the base of the rock.
