"The Trembling Lady"
The Millennium footbridge was not the first wobbly Thames crossing.
The Albert Bridge was built in 1873, but instability in the structure earned it its nickname, & signs instructing troops to break step when crossing remain in place. Sir Joseph Bazalgette (of Embankment & sewerage fame) was brought in to strengthen it between 1884-1887.
The bridge has recently re-opened after a 22 month restoration. One problem with it had been rotting of the timber deck, according to Wikipedia "caused by the urine of the many dogs using it as a route to nearby Battersea Park" (!).
At the re-opening two dogs from Battersea Dogs Home, named Prince & Albert, were walked across it.
It's not clear if they had a pee...
