Looking For Water
Although we live in an area where springs are well known for their historic importance and ocasionally pop up spontaneously, this is not about that.
For some time we have been concerned that the water supply to our local pond has stopped. While it used to be a place where ducks nested and herons caught frogs it has gradually reduced to a layer of mud. Frogs still come but all the tadpoles dry up and, when the birdbaths and garden ponds are frozen, there is no fresh water for the wildlife. Mr Flum, who knows a thing or two about water and drainage, thinks that, as the pond is maintained by run-off water, not springs, the pipe supplying the pond must have become blocked.
He contacted the Council and today a representative from the Parks and Greenspace Service came to discuss the problem and seemed very sympathetic. I blipped him with Mr Flum looking at the feedpipe outlet, which is camouflaged by mossy rocks.
Hopefully by next Spring the water will be flowing and our wildlife will have their pond back.
