Handsome

Kids?ya gotta love 'em! Sometimes, they say the funniest things. I'm a dental hygienist and I work for a practice that primarily sees children, so there's never a dull moment. Trust me?. I've seen it all, the good, the bad and the ugly. I block out the bad and the ugly and instead try to focus on the good. Today was a good day. ; ) One of my patients was this 5 year old, gorgeous, little, Hispanic girl that barely spoke any English. She was so adorable! When she came in she was crying and didn't want any part of getting her teeth, "washed." I smiled, walked over to her, took her by the hand and began to comfort her with my broken Spanish. I worked my magic and won her over with kindness, compassion and an occasional silly duck noise. As I was cleaning her teeth, she was staring intensely into my eyes and then in English she said, "You're handsome!" I laughed until I cried. I've been called a lot of things in my life, but never handsome. I said, "Gracias, you're handsome too!"
I love my job, because I'm able to connect with people like that and it's so rewarding. I feel that I make a difference by helping them face their fears and teaching them to trust those of us with good intentions. She may have come in crying, but she left laughing and that made my day.

*Sidenote* Handsome? Hmmm?I wonder if it's the mustache or the uni-brow? LOL. Ohh well....
