Return of the Jay

The jay was in this journal before. Was in March. Later in spring, in summer, in the autumn until now I didn't see the bird in our garden. Suddenly, early this morning I spotted two of them in the backyard. They made big noises of krèèèh krèèèh krèèèh to each other & later found out that all the bickering eventually was made about one peanut!

It's difficult to picture a jay in a house garden in a town. Those gardens are small & the jay is a very shy bird. At the slightest movement he flies away. Even if I stayed inside, behind glass, I could hardly move. Finally I closed the curtains & attempt to capture the birds with the lens through a slit. Of all the recordings only this one is rather successful. The jay sits between the branches of our one and only apple tree. He has dropped the peanut & is on the verge of flying to the ground. The second invisible jay screams his frustration at the missed peanut opportunity ... ;)
