Port
I just about gave up on a Blip today - got out of the office close to 7 and then hung out with a few coworkers downtown. I got home and all I wanted to do was crash - its been yet another long day. As I was about to turn off the kitchen light when I spotted the wine rack in the dining room...my eyes went to the port plaque. I have no clue where I got this from - but I love the vintage feel of it and Im a gal who truly appreciates a good port ;)
Definitely undervalued in America, but in Europe...there is no better way to finish off a meal than with a glass of rich, full bodied port! I collect wine as a hobby and I know pretty much everything about them (I specialize in Spanish/Italian reds)...but this is probably one of the most complex wines out there. Im not a big drinker at all - never got into it or see the point in getting trashed. But I do indulge in wine - Im Italian, its in our blood ;) And a glass once in a while is healthy for you.
Everyone always asks me what I recommend - two words - Angelo Gaja. One of Italy's most amazing wine producers - consistently puts out great wines. Yes they are expensive - but they are celebratory bottles...not your everyday table wines. They age well too - they are definitely bottles that you buy to drink 15 years from now. My favorite table wine - what I usually drink with dinner - Taurino Salice Solentino. It's a wonderful rosso that goes well with anything and it runs about $11. It's a 90+ point wine - if you find a vintage 1997 or 2003 - buy them all!! I think I'll stop here...I could discuss wines for hours.
Its almost the weekend!! This has truly been the longest week...
