Altocumulus stratiformis perlucidus

This cloud, according to the Cloudspotter's Guide by Gavin Pretor-Pinney could soon be known as a 'carp sky', so similar are this fish's scales to the altocumulus stratiformis perlucidus - so much easier to remember and not to be confused with a mackerel sky. Apparently it foretells the approach of a little light rain. This was photographed in the Teign Valley near Drewsteignton and I have learnt all the details since. A feature of walking in Devon at this time of the year has been the variety and profusion of fungi, and this walk from Moretonhampstead, along the Teign and past Becky Falls was no exception.
