The Golden Fauns
I came across this bracket on a doorway today in St Mary's Passage, the passageway that leads to Narnia (opposite St Mary's Church and next to Brasenose College, Oxford). The building may be part of Brasenose College: it is a timbered 17th century building, and the two golden fauns, one on each side of the bracket, must be of the same period but they look so shiny brand new. Amazing that I hadn't noticed them before.
It reminded me of another highlight of my year, seeing the Russian Ballet performance of L'Apres Midi d'une Faune in April... but oh, to have seen Nijinsky...
