What did I see today...?

Games Night

The game in question is Carcassonne, named for the French town which is famous for its medieval fortifications (althought its also widely recognised as representing the city of Nottingham in 'Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves').

Intringuingly it's a German game in terms of origins, designed by Klaus-Jürgen Wrede, who also teaches music and r.e. as well as designing board games. The object of the game is quite simple, amass the most points through ownership of farming land, roads, cities and cloisters and strategic building of the land you play on. The most fun can be uniting with other players to stop someone else (tonight was 'pick on Dave' night at one point!) or getting the perfect piece to complete the layout.

Tonight was our last games night of the year, this is what me and the Cambridge Assessment rounders crew get up to in the off season! We're going bowling next week as well, a fantastic Christmas tradition (and one for the cold weather / dark winter evenings too) that results in much hilarity and a race for last place (because that is the most fun).

Further awesomeness occurred today in that I found out some family friends will be coming over for Christmas, though this does mean more shopping to do it's just adding to the upcoming awesomeness of the day!
