Stan Laurel performed here

1. He also lived on my street, apparently.

2. I've been meaning to blip this for ages, every time I am at the Tron I try to remember. This is attached to the wall of the Panopticon where Stan Laurel did indeed perform. My grandad remembered him in Glasgow and talked of it fondly.

3. My grandad, Peter, was tall and striking, soft spoken and always wore a suit. He had a cooked breakfast and afternoon tea every day and always said 'come into the parlour if your feet are clean'.

4. His father was in the silk trade and travelled all over the world buying beautiful fabric. An essential part of the clothing trade.

5. His grandparents lived in Northumberland and owned a chemist. When he was a wee boy he used to visit them for summer holidays and he would travel from London to South Shields by boat.
