Last Day of a Drilling Tower
This morning the 'Hermod' de-ballasted completely in order to reach the top of the last drilling tower with her starboard crane. The ballast system of the 'Hermod' is super advanced. Old fashioned ballasting is called 'static', you start a pump and with pumping water you manipulate your draft or stability. By monitoring your draft, you will finally reach your required configuration. The 'Hermod' however, has a fully computer controlled dynamic ballast system. Computers are calculating non-stop her situation and target situation. They control the pumps as well. Check this: her ballast pump capacity is 8,000 cubic meter/hour with a dynamic ballast water handling of 500 tonnes per second. Round noon, the last drilling tower was removed as you can see here. To be recycled and used again.
