I doubt this was the manger that is featured in the song, but it does add a different dimension to the idea.
What if the three wise men took coffee, soup and a sandwich instead? It might have been a bit more useful than the frankincense an myrrh, although the gold probably did help Joseph set up his carpentry business. Anyway since both frankincense and myrrh are both gum resins taken from trees and used in perfumes etc, they do seem pretty cheapskate pressies.
Anyway, I suppose it's the thought that counts.
