Lost Economy

I witnessed two things on the news this evening that drew my eye...

Firstly, the protagonists of the House of Commons were behaving like a bunch of petulant school kids, bickering and point scoring, caring more about face than duty. As usual, it might be said.

And then there was the passing of a law in Scotland to ban sectarian chanting, and other rather vaguely defined acts, at football games. There is perhaps more to it, but that is as reported.

Am I alone in thinking that if our politicians cannot even have a debate without jibes and name calling, why is it considered acceptable to legislate on the same principle in football?

How can we hope to steady the economy, create jobs, and redress inequalities when those that wield power on our behalf cannot put the nation before their monstrous egos?
