The Day Of The Virgin Of Guadalupe
Today I went down w/Jose, Sandra's dad to experience this most important of days in the Mexican calendar.
I took over 400 photos throughout the 4 or 5 hours that I was there and I think I got some of the finest shots I've ever taken. Between the light, which was sumptuous and the 2 lenses I brought w/me (the 50 mm & the wide-angle 18-35 mm) it would have been very difficult not to get pleasing results.
It has taken me an age to choose which one to post here and I'm not sure I've posted the best. This was the main other CONTENDER. I will put a link up later to more of those that I've shot. But it may be a while seeing it's taken me three days to get through half as many photos of Eric's band. Though these will involve a lot less processing beacuse of the quality of the light. Mainly cropping I suspect.
An incredible experience, especially when contrasted w/the pilgrimiges that I've been on back home in Ireland when I was a young lad. Which were monochromatic, still and lifeless in comparison. This was a smorgasbord of colour and dancing. I was quite shocked to see so many indigenous Indians and tribes-people engaging in, what struck me as, pagan rituals to celebrate the Virgin Mary.
If you're ever in Mexico in December, you would be mad to miss it. Simple as!
