Oh Saturnalia Tree

One of the things I do like about this time of year is Christmas trees, and I think this might be because the origin of this tradition dates back a lot further than Christianity. I also love seeing fairy lights in windows. It really brightens the place up.

Having done a bit of digging it would seem that the association of evergreens with this time of year dates at least back to the Egyptians, who associated them with the triumph of life over death (Christmas-tree.com). I like to think of Christmas as that big mid-winter bean feast to celebrate the fact that we're not dead yet and a wolf hasn't eaten the sun and that Spring will some time spring again.

I have my own tradition of inviting a friends over to help me decorate my tree. All I ask is that they bring me an ornament to add to the collection. Each year when I take out the decorations they remind me of my friends and how lucky I am to have them. This year they will also give me something to blip when I need it. Hooray!
