Christmas nosh!
I have had the most entertaining morning helping my Italian neighbours pluck and gut 20 hens and ducks outdoors.
Within in 2 hours they'd gone from just dead (the birds not the neighbours) to ready for pot or freezer. There is hardly any waste, just one wheelbarrow of feathers and intestines.
The live ducks and hens wandered about getting in the way of passing tractors but were shooed off with a pitchfork. The dogs were fed the toes and an occasional treat of something slimy.
I was rewarded with a chicken and a duck and livers for my famous pate!
Then we had lunch with them- pasta with peas and the most fiery and delicious salsa followed by rabbit and salads and melon-all washed down with home brewed wine.
The lady of the house came for her English lesson in the afternoon.
