must try harder

No such thing as a free lunch.

Every summer, we help our on the Bacon stand at our local 'Green Day'. B is actually fairly active in her church and helps with lots, but on the Saturday of 'Green Day' (which is actually a week long, not a day!), we are flat out all day frying bacon....masses of bacon.

We never get to see all the rest of the stalls, only fleetingly, but every year we buy a square on the pledge board, and this year....we won (one of the prizes), which was a meal for two at the swan pub.

The meal was pretty good too, B had confit of duck with black pudding salad followed by sea bream and I had beef dumplings with a chilli sauce followed by Salmon and crab fishcake....with the obligatory couple of pints of Pride. (Whatever you do, do it with Pride!)

All in all, there was probably only a couple of things wrong about the evening. First, we had to share our table with another couple. Then, there was a shocking draught at the table where we sat. (At least B thought there was - I was fine). So by the end of the evening, as I was paying the bill, B parked herself in front of the fire that had been vacated and now suddenly was in no mood to hurry! Eventually, we had to brave the driving rain.

So we ate for free, drank for free, I got a lift home for free. But I had to make the tea when we got in!
