Rest

After going to bed exhausted last night at 6 o'clock, today is very much a day of rest and recovery from general aches and feelings of not exactly what you would call tip-top health. Not even leaving the house.

But there is this countdown business still tick tick ticking...

Album #7:
The Motion Sickness Of Time Travel - Luminaries & Synastry

Rachel Evans records music under this MSOTT moniker by herself and under the name Quiet Evenings when she duets with her husband Grant. There have been a few recordings from the Evans' stable this year but I'm particularly fond of this one. There's a wonderful hazy, dreamy quality to it all that coddles and swathes, soothes and embraces. Sample track: Late Day Sun Silhouettes

Film #7:
Drive

There's so many 'bits' to like about this movie - the ticking watch, the little idiosyncracies of Ryan Gosling's character, the Scorpion-emblazoned satin jacket to name but a few. And, it's a very self-conscious movie but that's not to detract from the sheer style that director Nicolas Winding Refn brings to it. There are also some sickening scenes of violence that come out of nowhere and are just plain nasty, there's nothing cartoonish about these elements in the slightest. It's not a perfect movie by any means, but it carries off its sense of purpose effortlessly and wears its cool-badge with pride.
