Sparkling morning
Hard frost this morning with lots of sparkling grass and the odd leaf as here catching the light from the morning sun.
I find it very frustrating that capturing the sparkle seems to be almost impossible. The garden table was shimmering beautifully but looked very ordinary as a photograph.
It was slippery walking up to church and when we got there the heating had failed!
Our back up when church is too cold is to have our service in the family room which is an extension built on to the back of the church and extended some years ago. That was fine except it was a baptism too so it was a bit of a squeeze but at least we were warm.
Tonight is our joint Carol Service with St Matthew's from Wilsden and although the heating was fixed and working before we left at lunchtime I have a feeling it will be pretty chilly! Lots of candles though and hopefully lots of bodies to help warm it up.
(This is all a bit controversial as some of our congregation want to put in new underfloor heating - which is fine - but the proposal is then not to replace the pews but to carpet the church and have seats for greater flexibility. It has caused a bit of a split in the ranks as although we all want to be warm some would prefer to keep the church looking traditional. From a music point of view I am told that carpet will kill the acoustics and although we are not a magnificent choir we do have the lovely acapella Russian choir, Blagovest every September.)
