Freshwater Mussels, River Dee
I've written quite a bit about freshwater mussels in the past. I took this picture in the river Dee by dipping the end of my lens in to the water to avoid the reflection, not to be recommended I suppose.
The mussels are really important to the salmon river ecosystem as they filter gallons of water every day. But they have been over-exploited for their pearls and now they are a protected species.
