Tropical Finish-line

Today when I arrived at the beach for my usual volleyball games, there was a swimming race in Zihuatanejo Bay. I'm not certain how far the race was. I kayaked the distance the other day in a little under 10 minutes but these racers went from Playa La Ropa across the bay to Las Gatas and back - twice as far. This was the finish-line right next to a popular beach-front restaurant (seen in the background). According to my on-line Spanish translator meta means goal, which I guess is a synonym for finish, and is very fitting for those swimming across the open-water of the bay (like the person approaching the goal on the right).
