Ojo Caliente, New Mexico
Hot springs New Mexico style!
After a really big breakfast at the Santa Fe bakehouse we walked around the Christmas markets and then headed to Ojo Caliente, the hot springs.
The outdoor hot pools are different temperatures (we were a bit alarmed that one was 100 degrees until we remembered that its fahrenheit!) and have different mineral properties. There was an iron and an arsenic pool, apparently it is good for your joints- just don't drink the water! A really, really steamy, steam room and stunning views of the rocks. We soaked as the sun set and the stars came out.
We joined friends for dinner at a Greek restaurant in Los Alamos, our first non-chili meal since we arrived!
I don't think I've mentioned it before but Los Alamos was the town that didn't exist during the war, it was left off all the maps and kept secret because of the huge science lab in town. It's the place where the nuclear bomb was created. The lab still exists today and is a major employer in the area, what goes on there though is still top secret.
