Bahadiyah Canal
From pharoanic times, the canals leading from the Nile have been the lifeblood of cultivation when the river is low.
This canal is opposite where I live and goes from Esna in the south, to close to Qena, north of Luxor. With its system of gates, it provides water to the farmlands close by. Unfortunately. the banks are overgrown at this time, but they are regularly cleaned, and excessive vegetation removed.
Ducks, geese and other waterfowl live on the canals around here, and I guess that they are used as food by the people living close to the canals.
