Cycling the bottom

The old civil war era cobblestones rattle your bones. Like cycling over a washing board, but what a treat to fly past the old city on a bike!

Kerry and I went cycling around Richmond this afternoon on a winter bike ride. Though I grew up around here I've never discovered the city like this by bike. We explored through the fan, past the financial district, and down into the old part of the city near the flood walls by the James River. We wandering up into the State Capital grounds to get a look at the stage props and commotion for the new Speilberg film Lincoln being shot this fall and winter here. Starring Daniel Day Lewis it is about Abraham Lincoln. It makes you do a double take to see if you'll run into any actors around the city - really fun and great publicity for Richmond.

We cycled down by the canals and the old industrial zone. Here worn out warehouses and factory works are slowly being reclaimed and renovated into river lofts and greenway biking trails. It has the feeling a little bit like parts of Brooklyn or Montreal I've biked through. We stopped by a little Irish pub for a wee drought of guiness biking home and spent the evening watching movies and making pizzas....
