Ness of Brodgar
I went a walk around Brodgar today. The light wasn't great and I didn't take many photographs. This is of a standing stone, one of two, in the garden of a house at Ness of Brodgar. There is a major archaeological dig there every summer and the house was recently put up for sale. It was bought by an archaeology enthusiast and gifted to ORCA, the Orkney archaeology research centre. Nice gift! I heard that it might be demolished so the site beneath can be analysed but, more recently, the reports are that it will be used as offices for the dig. No doubt the kitchen and toilets will be welcome facilities for the diggers. There were portakabins etc but this'll be better. It is a pretty exposed site and even in the summer can get pretty windy and wet there.
More about this stuff here.
