This should be a photograph of a Mexican paper flower and a Christmas tree Christmas tree decoration*. But the camera is just too shite. So, it is another picture of our kitchen floor and one of our kitchen chairs, from a slightly different angle. Oh. And my new bargain bag. £2.80 from a Sauchiehall St chazzer. Glasgow did me good.

*Chris and I went to Rudy's class today to take an art workshop. It was all arranged very quickly so we decided on two activities that were festively appropriate and easy to organise. It was a very lovely afternoon and we both thoroughly enjoyed spending time with all these wee people that Rudy has been talking about since he started school in August.

The afternoon went quite smoothly and each of the children made one tree and one flower and after they finished they all sat with their legs crossed in front of the teacher as Chris and I cleared up behind them. Then something very funny happened....

Miss Stewart asked the children to say thank you to us and they obliged; turning their heads to direct their gaze over their shoulders in our direction. The teacher then asked the group what "kind of clap" they would like to give Chris and I for helping. One person suggested the alligator clap: a clap of arms outstretched like an alligator mouth. Rudy said that he would "prefer the shark clap" and it was decided that the shark clap would be the one.

At which point the teacher acknowledged that Rudy had invented the aforementioned shark clap and he nodded earnestly in agreement. Chris and I were standing looming over this sea of little creatures who, once again, turned their heads over their shoulders in our direction and started 'shark clapping'.

The little known 'shark clap' essentially consists of one revealing one's gritted teeth and making an exaggerated biting/chattering/teeth clicking action over and over. An applause of the teeth. It is one of the oddest funniest things I have ever been privilege to; a group of twenty 5 year olds and their grown up teacher all shark clapping just for me (oh, and Chris!)
