the one that gets away
There's something about corvids that draws me, mainly to crows and ravens. I know if I was a Tlingit, I would be in the raven clan. As much as I love owls and raptors, I still just know I'm a raven. I've always known.
Corvids are on the top of the bird family as far as intelligence goes. They use tools and even bait to acquire food and for grooming. They have been known to recognize individual human faces. They are good mimics and can copy the human voice like a parrot. They live in matriarchal family groups and take care of and protect their family.
Unfortunately since they are so smart, they're so far somewhat skittish when it comes to me trying to get a good blip. I raise my camera and whoosh, they're gone. Also the all black creates a lighting problem...you need good light or they end up always looking like a silhouette. So today is a great example of what a lot of my attempts at blipping crows have gone. One day.
